This year, the Alberta Biennial includes the work of 21 Alberta artists, and is being organized as a collaboration between The Edmonton Art Gallery and the Walter Phillips Gallery at the Banff Centre for the Arts. Co-curated by Catherine Crowston and Anthony Kiendl, the full exhibition opens at the Walter Phillips Gallery on February 26, 2005 and at The Edmonton Art Gallery on May 20, 2005. The Alberta Biennial of Contemporary Art was initiated in 1996 to celebrate the richness and diversity of art-making in Alberta and to foster collaboration and dialogue between artists and arts organizations. Since its inception, the Biennial has featured the work of 107 Alberta artists.
