Shauna Rolston and Heather Schmidt

The exciting partnership between cellist, Shauna Rolston and pianist, Heather Schmidt began when the duo performed a successful recital at the Winnipeg New Music Festival in 2002, and continues with many forthcoming performances in Canada and abroad. A much sought after cellist, Shauna began her study of the cello at the age of two in the cradle of the Canadian Rockies, Banff, Alberta. Her magnetic personality, combined with masterful technique and a commanding intensity of expression, continue to impress audiences and critics alike. Calgary-born pianist and composer Heather Schmidt, recognized as one of the most talented, exciting and versatile musicians of her generation, has received national and international recognition through performances, broadcasts, commissions and awards. As another dimension of their collaboration, Heather wrote two works, Icicles of Fire for cello and piano and a double concerto for cello and piano for Shauna. This recital will be a first-ever appearance in Ottawa for this highly acclaimed duo. A display of artistry and beauty not to be missed! Program to include: Manuel de Falla’s Suite populaire espagnole, Heather Schmidt's Icicles of Fire, and Rachmaninov's Sonata in G Minor for cello and piano.
