OPENING NIGHT PARTY 21:00 - 23:00, NAC Lobby
SWARM continues with interactive theatre, live music, performance art and B.C. wine!
REBECCA BELMORE - VICTORIOUS
Originally created for Hive 2 at the Magnetic North Theatre Festival, Victorious is artist Rebecca Belmore's response to Prime Minister Harper's apology to former students of Indian Residential Schools. Working from an image of Queen Victoria, Belmore reworks her 'monarch' into a First Nations version of royalty.
THEATRE REPLACEMENT - WEETUBE
Part performance, part parlour game, WeeTube is an installation-based and site-responsive performance for an intimate audience. The performers watch YouTube videos with audience members and then perform the publicly posted comments in a variety of dramatic settings. LOL!
RADIX THEATRE - THE PERFORMANCE ART TRAP
A visually startling, completely engaging, unique, intimate theatre experience. The Traps are giant, custom-built cardboard boxes; the 'bait' is a performer inside. The one-on-one theatre in boxes offers metaphors on the trappings of career, love, fame, and death.
DJ TIMOTHY WISDOM
DJ Timothy Wisdom is the sought-after powerhouse behind Vancouver's exploding intentional dance community. His show boldly sets a new standard in performance DJing.
MOBILE SWARM
Mobile Swarm will engage BC Scene SWARM visitors in creating architectures for communication and furthered dialogue. A mobile crowd cultural crit will be hosted at each gallery during SWARM with a live screen display and remixing VJ at the NAC receiving and publishing text and streaming video. Produced by W2 (Vancouver) in residence at Art Engine (Ottawa).
AFTER-PARTY 23:00 - 02:00, SAW Gallery (67 Nicholas)
The really hip late-night party for hard-core SWARMers!
* Now a hugely successful event annually in Vancouver, SWARM is organized by PAARC, the Pacific Association of Artist Run Centres. Artist run centres (ARCs) are non-profit organizations, run by and for artists, supporting new and innovative practices in the arts. Generally, these centres exhibit contemporary art which parallels the larger public institutions and private commercial galleries - offering an alternative to artists in determining how to represent their work.
Presented in collaboration with PAARC, the pacific association of artist run centres.
