Juno Award winner and seven-time Juno nominee, Bill Bourne, is a gifted and creative musician. A one man tour de force, he has received international acclaim for his recordings and live performances. Born in Red Deer Bill has spent decades on the road, and his travels are reflected in his music—a sound steeped in Cajun, Celtic, world beat, flamenco, funk, and a lot of blues. Through years of non-stop touring, Bill has become a mainstay on the international roots scene. Don’t miss his solo performance at Alberta Scene, which, combined with a repeat Alberta Scene appearance by Maria Dunn, will make for a memorable evening of song-writing excellence.
A storyteller through song, Maria Dunn is an arrestingly powerful singer-songwriter. She combines North American folk and country music with the influences of her Celtic heritage. Born in Scotland and raised in Alberta, she writes songs inspired by historical and contemporary characters, capturing their struggles and triumphs in her lyrics. In 2002, Maria received a Juno Award nomination in the Roots/Traditional Solo category for her CD, For a Song. Her new project, We Were Good People, explores the stories of working people in western Canada—tales of resilience and hope. Expect a thought-provoking performance from Maria at Alberta Scene!
