Calvin Vollrath

Calvin Vollrath is known as one of the foremost exponents of Métis fiddle music. His talents have been showcased on some of the most prestigious stages around the world. A resident of St. Paul, Alberta, he is considered by his peers to be one of the hottest swing violinists on the continent, both of jazz and western forms, and it’s also no stretch for the gifted musician to find himself in the middle of the action at a bluegrass festival. Calvin has recorded an astounding forty plus albums over the years. His session work has landed him in studios with artists ranging from Ian Tyson to Roy Forbes. At Alberta Scene, you can expect to hear Calvin and his band exploring a variety of styles with equal parts skill and passion.

Tri-Continental

With four Juno Awards and 10 Juno Award nominations between them, Bill Bourne, Lester Quitzau and Madagascar Slim are truly major players in the Canadian music scene. In fact, they are a super-group of artists, individually successful and when they come together – electric! They’re close friends and the artistic respect for one another is evident when listening to their music. Each musician has established himself as a respected artist in such musical genres as Folk, Celtic and World, but they all share an extreme passion for, and knowledge of, the blues. Sweet vocal harmonies and imaginative guitar playing are the hallmark of their music. With a mutual love of emotional collaboration and a great curiosity for where their music comes from, this trio of artists has created music that is a product of faith, dreams, broken hearts, grit and most importantly, friendship.
