A musical cabaret devised in collective creation, An Eye for an Eye tells the contemporary, controversial story of Wiebo Ludwig, a Christian minister in northern Alberta who struggles against the oil and gas industry as development encroaches on his land. Harmful discharges of deadly hydrogen sulfide gas have spawned acts of vigilanteism in Ludwig's community against the oil and gas industry. The play also tracks three other points of view involved in the struggle, the RCMP, an oil and gas executive, and a young girl tragically killed on Ludwig's property. An Eye for an Eye was nominated for 5 Betty Mitchell Awards - Winner, 2001 Outstanding Musical. Established in 1991, Ghost River Theatre has premiered productions across Canada at Alberta Theatre Projects, One Yellow Rabbit, The Edmonton Fringe, Mermaid Theatre of Nova Scotia, Les 20 jours du théâtre à risque, (Montreal), The International Storytelling Festival, and the Eastern Front Theatre, (Halifax.). Ghost River Theatre is committed to presenting new Canadian theatre that is innovative, accessible, and highly theatrical. "This is some of the best of what a new generation of writers is producing," CBC.
